Blog Update #1

It's coming up - our first blog update Monday of the year! Next week, on Monday, October 3rd the following journalists will share their most recent posts, enlightening us about their topics, looking for more ideas/feedback, and engaging with the class about the importance of this topic in the world.

The reporters are:

1. A-Camp
2. Not so Main-stream Tyler
3. Fabreakin' the Bank Jill
4. Zack Attack
5. And Victor (whose name says it all!)

Stay tuned for their awesome updates and keep working on keeping us informed!

Off to great start!

2016 Journalists!

Those blogs are off to an amazing start! There are so many exciting topics that you have decided to take on, and I for one am truly looking forward to keeping up with what you have to say to the world. Remember that one voice has the power to move people, one image the ability to change hearts, and one word the strength to shift the course of human history. As you continue this journey of research, discovery, self expression, and community engagement, be willing to move beyond and outside of your comfort zone. There, in the midst of ideas you may have never thought, you may just discover something more compelling that you ever thought possible!

And... all corniness aside, you all have something important to say - so go say it!

Signing off,
McSorley

Just Getting Started!

Hello Journalism Enthusiasts and Newcomers!

Welcome to Blogger, the hosting site that you will use as the platform for your semester long reporting portfolio on one theme in modern society. There are a variety of ways to set up your Blog, but some of the key things to focus on are:
  1. Readability - your viewers should easily be able to read the information your are providing to them. If they cannot read it quickly, you know as well as I do, that these days people will simply move on to the next thing. So think carefully when making choices about font, size, color, style, placement, etc.
  2. Ease of Access - your viewers need to be able to access all of the information you are attempting to provide to them, without missing out on the "big deal" in the meantime as well. This means that hyperlinks, videos, images, and all other "add-ons" to the news story you are presenting must not take away from the topic at hand, but must also work easily for the viewer so that they may delve deeper in the way you are encouraging them to do.
  3. Interest - our world is saturated with voices, a lot of people "talking" all at once to anyone who will listen. As a reporter and a journalist, you must find a way to break through this saturation and reach your audience - if the issue is important to you, make it important and interesting to them!
Keep these three things in mind as you begin designing and posting to your Blog, and you will lay the foundation for a successful news' reporting outlet, written and edited by you.
